These programs aim to create career-ready instructors with transferable skills across studios, clinics, and countries.
National Framework for Pilates Education & Professional Registry
When your certification is recognized by CPMS, your graduates earn a nationally registered status your program then appears in Canada's only unified Pilates registry. Here's how to get listed.
Equipment Manufacturer Certifications
Many globally recognized Pilates certifications originate from equipment manufacturers who develop both the apparatus and the education systems that support them.
What this entails:
Structured curriculum aligned with specific equipment systems
Training across apparatus such as Reformer, Trapeze Table (Cadillac), Chair, and Barrels
Integration of biomechanics, movement science, and programming
Global educator networks and standardized teaching frameworks
These programs often offer modular certification pathways, including:
Mat Certification
Reformer Certification
Comprehensive Certification (full apparatus training)
A comprehensive pathway typically includes:
Coursework modules
Observation hours
Practice teaching
Written and practical examinations
These certifications are widely distributed internationally and often serve as a foundation for global teaching mobility.
Certification Provider Registration
Any organization wishing to offer a Pilates certification recognized by CPMS must complete the following:
Certifying Body Registration $499 per year
A Canadian Pilates Studio offering a Pilates Certification is able to receive a Certifying Body designation at a fee of $200 per year in addition to Studio CPMS Registration. Once the Education Form has been submitted, the CPMS Studio-registered user shall receive an email link to add this designation to their existing registration.
Curriculum Review & Approval
Submission of the full educational package
Supporting materials for review are a full curriculum outline, sample lesson plans, instructor bios, and insurance documentation
Approval to ensure alignment with CPMS National Standards
Our mission is to create clarity, credibility, and consistency within the Pilates profession by offering:
Structured professional designations
A National Registry of qualified professionals
A formal review and approval process for certifying bodies and educational providers
Educators delivering registered certifications must be registered with CPMS as either:
Canadian Practitioner and Educator, or
International Educator
Studio-Based Certifications & Brand Training
Many studios, particularly franchises or branded systems, offer their own certification pathways designed to support their internal teaching model.
These certifications may:
Focus on specific class formats (e.g., Reformer-based group classes)
Be tailored to a studio’s proprietary method or client experience
Include internal assessments and teaching evaluations
Provide direct employment pathways within the brand
Scope can vary:
Short-format certifications ( Pilates mat)
Modular or in-house training systems
Limited equipment focus (Reformer-only)
These certifications are often highly effective within their ecosystem, but may have limited transferability outside the brand, depending on the education focus. The CPMS recognizes certifications that offer intensives with infrastructure in place for individuals to practice at the studio to attain the necessary hours for certification and testing.
